About the Artist关于艺术家
Michael Heizer is a preeminent artist of Land Art. A California native, Heizer studied at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1963 to 1964, then moved to New York for a few years before heading, in 1967, to Nevada to pursue his idea of earth as a medium for art. His iconic works include Double Negative, 1969-1970, two trenches cut into the Mormon Mesa near Overton, Nevada; and City, a life-long project of enormous scale, begun in 1972 and ongoing today in Garden Valley, Nevada. Heizer’s Levitated Mass, 2012, can be experienced at the North Lawn of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Ace presented Hiezer’s Displaced Replaced Mass in 1982 at Ace Gallery Venice, and in 1994 at Ace Gallery New York.
